(iv) Another official attached to the Foreign Affairs
Department, Tokyo, arrived from Macau in company with a Brazilian
Army Major, and left together for Japan by the first available ship.
They both conversed in Portuguese.
(v)
Colonel ISHINO, the local suspect language study officer,
has been making frequent trips to Macau recently, and it is
reported that on at least one occasion he met other Japanese
Military officers who had journeyed from Canton for the purpose
of holding a meeting.

Major-General TANAKA, Chief of Staff of the South China
Expeditionary Force, paid an official visit to Hong Kong,
accompanied by two other Military officers (one of whom was formerly
stationed in Hong Kong as a language study officer) in connection
with the Japanese bombing of British territory. After a short
stay they left for Macau where they paid their respects to the
Governor, who, incidentally left for Portugal by air on 4.4.39.

One local Japanese resident died as a result of wounds
inflicted by an embittered Chinese, who has since been committed
for trial. "part from this, no marked anti-Japanese incidents
have come to notice during the quarter.
